New details about the abrupt firing of Sabine
Singh to make way for the return of her predecessor,
Rebecca Budig, who reprises the role on January 16,
don't paint the show's handling of the situation in a
gracious light.
Shortly after news of Singh's ouster broke, a
letter-writer claiming to be a childhood friend of the
actress published a damning post on an AMC message
board. "She was given the news this week [and]
given less than a week to 'quietly get out,'" it
read, "told to pack her things and leave, no thank
you for your hard work, or doing the best you could, or
giving it your all. Nothing... To be living your life
knowing Greenlee's storyline for the next six months,
being told over and over again how much she's
appreciated, doing a great job [and then to be
dismissed], she was floored." Singh tells Digest
that although she doesn't know who wrote the letter,
which describes a recent on-set episode in which
producers gave the fever-and-flu-ridden actress "a
bucket to vomit in, put it by her side, and made her
stay and finish her scenes," it's contents are
"mostly accurate."
Adding insult to injury, sources report that on Singh's
final tape day, December 14, she was scheduled to shoot
her last scene at the end of the day on a closed set,
meaning that when she wrapped, the building was all but
empty. "It was shady," says a setside source.
"It seems deliberate, like they didn't want anyone
to be there to say good-bye to her."
A large cross-section of AMC cast and crew did gather
later that night to say a proper farewell to the
actress, and many of them were visibly upset to be
losing a beloved colleague. "Rebecca is one of my
closest friends," noted Alicia Minshew (Kendall).
"But at the same time, I've grown so close with
Sabine, and it was all so sudden ... I wish things had
been handled differently."
"It has been a difficult week and a shocking, most
unexpected turn of events," responds Singh.
"My fellow cast and crew members held me up through
my last week of work, where I shot scenes and said lines
that were no longer mine. This was difficult news to
receive the week before Christmas," she adds,
"which made it even harder to tell my family. I am
so sad to have lost a job I loved so much, and I am sad
at how much this hurts my amazingly supportive family.
Ultimately, I would like to thank ALL MY CHILDREN for
the opportunities they provided me, but most especially,
I want to thank them because I was able to meet and work
with such remarkable, extraordinary people."
